Houzz forums ficus ginseng watering5/18/2023 ![]() Infrequent shade and dry air are two of the most common causes of bonsai foliage loss. It is also possible to graft fig tree branches and roots. However, cuttings have the best chance of success during mid-summer growth, whereas they can be planted at any time of year. A Ficus should be watered on a regular basis, so it should be given water liberally whenever the soil dries out. Summer is an excellent time to keep it outside as long as the temperature is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius). It is a hardy indoor plant that does not freeze. Leave at least two and three leaves on the branch as soon as possible. According to general rules, it is recommended to remove two to three leaves for every six new leaves that are grown and develop. Trim and shape the tree in order to achieve the look you want for your bonsai. Pruning can be done by any number of methods. Because ficus plants do not like to be moved, the best way to keep them manageable is to prune them. These plants can grow indoors and outgrow their homes at times. There is no better houseplants for growing than fescue plants. Once you’ve finished that, you should take a closer look at your tree and determine which branches should be removed in order for your design to appear. To begin, remove the dead branches from the tree. How do you prune a bianco? When you place your tree on a table, make sure you are looking at it at all times. Make sure the soil is moist throughout the summer and a little less moist in the winter. Trim and shape the tree in accordance with your personal aesthetic while practicing bonsai. Indoors, it prefers light and warmth, but it also prefers shady spots to grow. Because the roots stay exposed above the ground’s surface, it is most appealing to the eye. Bannyan fig, Taiwan fig, and laurel fig are all Southeast Asian names for the same tree. ![]() The Ginseng Fircus retusa variety (Ficus retusa) is one of the large groups of figs that live in this area. With proper care and regular trimming, a ficus ginseng bonsai tree can thrive indoors for many years. Be careful not to over-prune the tree, as this can damage it. Cut back any overgrown branches to encourage new growth. Make sure to remove any dead or dying leaves or branches. Use sharp, clean pruning shears to make clean cuts. Here are some tips on how to trim a ficus ginseng bonsai tree: 1. When trimming a ficus ginseng bonsai tree, it is important to do so carefully and with the proper tools to avoid damaging the tree. If it comes out wet, you should check back in a week or so.Ficus ginseng bonsais are popular indoor plants because of their compact size and easy care requirements. In this case, if the soil comes out dry – its time to water. Feel/Notice if it feels wet, moist or dry and water accordingly. Signs of overwatering? The tree will develop root rot.Ī FOOLPROOF WAY TO WATER YOUR GINSENG FICUS – Use the Smart Stick Method! Simply insert the Horty Girl Smart Stick found with every plant, into the base of the plant and pull out the stake. The water shouldn’t “pooled” at the bottom of the glass and should soak up reasonably quickly. Sometimes the soil may need less than 1/3 of a cup. Pour slowly to ensure you don’t overwater. Grab a 1/3 of a cup of water, and pour slowly at the base of the plant. This plant can survive drought light conditions, as it does store and soak up water through its roots – so it is better to under water than overwater. Water every 2 – 3 weeks in the Spring and Summer months, and then space out your watering in the Fall and Winter months. To water a Ginseng ficus tree, the soil should be dry between each watering period. If you notice these pesky bugs, just spray with a mixture of soapy water twice a day for 2 weeks. The Ginseng Ficus tree may get spider mites or gnats, but it will not affect the actual health of the plant. Should you repot the Ginseng Ficus, pruning at the roots will need to be done as well. Pruning the leaves will help maintain the shape and structure of the tree. It is said to prune at both ends (the roots and the leaves). Remember to avoid placing the plant in areas where it is close to the henter vents or drafty windows.ĭue to the bonsai nature of the ficus tree, pruning will be required as it grows. Because of its bonsai nature, this ginseng ficus can still grow in low-light levels. Given its tropical origins, the FIcus retusa enjoys warm, direct sunlight, but can grow in full sun to partial shade. These trees have also been called Cuban laurels or Indian laurel figs. The Ginseng ficus tree, also known as the Ficus retusa or Ficus microcarpa, have a distinctive bulbous root that resemble ginseng (Hint the name )). This past Chinese new year, we introduced the Ginseng Ficus in a cute round glass container to our product line.

Cutebaby bird5/18/2023 ![]() So tiny in comparison to the adults, this baby ostrich has a massive amount of growing to do. The black eye stripe of this baby Robin makes it look like it is trying to play at being a superhero! 7. These baby Tree Swallows look very grumpy about waiting for their dinner. “Look mum I can’t see my feet,” said the cute baby flamingo to its mother.Īgain looking very different from its parents, with just the long legs as a giveaway, this baby flamingo will grow up in no time. ![]() Looking rather different from it’s parents, this baby robin looks like it is suffering from the same frizzy hair problem as the snowy owl baby. The frizzy hair and big black eyes in contrast to the white feathers make baby snowy owls so fragile looking. They always look like they are smiling and with the big fluffy bodies and little arms (I know they are not arms, but anyway), they are so captivating. Baby PenguinĪ certain well-known movie always makes me expect that baby penguins are about to start dancing at any moment. This list of the cutest baby birds is by no means exhaustive and there are hundreds that could be added but here are some of the highlights of the cutest baby birds around. Whatever it is baby birds are adorable and I have spent hours hunting down some of the best baby bird photos for you to enjoy (all in the name of science of course!) Or maybe it is the fact that their heads and feet look too big for their bodies. I love the messy, fluffy stage once some downy feathers have grown in and they look like they are having a bad hair day. DOI: 10.1371/’s be honest baby animals are so cute and baby birds have to be some of the cutest around. Seems like a nice arrangement, unless you happen to be one of those chicks who is too close to the edge of the nest. ![]() Alligators protect the bird eggs from raccoons and the birds toss the alligators enough extra protein that they grow to breeding size more often than their counterparts. In the end, alligators are getting roughly the same benefit from the facilitation arrangement that the birds are. We hypothesize that alligators are attracted to and, given their territorial behavior, may even compete for territories that include wading bird colonies.īirds are, they add, are creating "localized nutritional subsidies" for the Florida alligators. The magnitude of benefits demonstrated here indicates that for alligators there should be selective pressure toward behaviors that enhance the benefits they derive from this association. The alligators who weren't in facilitative relationships were less likely to have a body mass that would make them want to breed. Their body masses were similar to those of alligators who choose to reproduce. Advertisementįlorida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissionīy measuring the alligators’ mass relative to their length, the researchers determined that alligators who lived near wading bird colonies were healthier, with higher relative body mass. When you've got an entire egret colony, that's a lot of chicks.īy placing cameras near birds' nests in swamps (see below), the researchers found that alligators frequently hang out directly under the nests within chick-catching range, clearly hoping for the adults to toss them a snack. So adult birds toss extra chicks out into the swampy waters below for the alligators to enjoy. Most wading birds tend to spawn far more chicks than they can fit in one nest. One is an indirect benefit, because bird guano is full of nutrients which can make the region more attractive for marine life generally-and that can mean more tasty treats for the gators. It turns out that there are two immediate benefits for alligators. They can get raccoons anywhere, so why stick around bird colonies? Answering that question is the focus of this new study. Rarely did anyone wonder what alligators got out of this deal. Alligators keep the birds' nests safe from predators. Environmental scientists have known for a long time that birds and alligators thrive in part thanks to a mutually beneficial arrangement that's called "facilitation." The birds choose to nest in trees right at the center of dangerous alligator territories-and it's out of a sense of self-preservation. Their nests are out of chomping range, which means the local alligators focus on killing the raccoons and possums that would normally eat birds' eggs. Many wading birds-including egrets, herons, and storks-actually feed their babies to local alligators in exchange for protection from other predators.Ī new study published in PLoS One explores the complicated relationship between colonies of wading birds and alligators in the Florida Everglades. Nature's reality, however, is a lot less adorable. Everybody loves a cute picture of a baby bird, which is why the Internet is packed with shots of these tiny balls of fluff, watched over by their adoring parents.

![]() Exception to the Statement:Įxception is to be taken to this statement, admitting the etymological assumption upon which it rests, that "lilith" is a word in mythology, on the ground that the conception of a night-demon has no place in the religion of the Hebrews as exhibited in the Scriptures. ![]() It is most curious and interesting to observe that this ghost-demon lived on through the history of the Babylonian religion, and was carried out into the Hebrew religion, there to find one single mention in the words of one of the Hebrew prophets" (Religions of Assyria and Babylonia, 76, 77). The lil was attended by a serving maid, the ardat lili ("maid of night"), which in the Semitic development was transferred into the feminine lilitu. Professor Rogers' Statement:Ĭoncerning this weird superstition, and its strange, single appearance in the Book of Isaiah, Professor Rogers has this to say: "The lil, or ghost, was a night-demon of terrible and baleful influence upon men, and only to be cast out with many incantations. The word is translated in the King James Version "screech-owl," margin "night monster," the Revised Version (British and American) "night-monster," margin "Lilith." The term "night-monster" is also an interpretation, inasmuch as it implies that the Hebrew word is a Babylonian loan-word, and that the reference indicates a survival of primitive folklore. The term "night-monster"' is a hypothetical translation of the Hebrew term lilith, used once only, in Isa 34:14. ⇒ See also the McClintock and Strong Biblical Cyclopedia.
